Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask most when they first meet Pourist.
What is Pourist?
Pourist is an iOS app for pour over (hand drip) coffee. It keeps an archive of your beans, builds brewing recipes tuned to the dripper, grinder, filter, and water you actually own, guides each brew with a step-by-step timer, and adjusts the next recipe from your tasting feedback. Cups you drink at cafes can live in the same log.
Is Pourist free? What does Plus cost?
The daily loop is free: registering beans (photo recognition included), managing gear, brewing with the step-by-step timer, logging feedback, the cafe log, and up to 15 generated recipes per month. Pourist Plus removes the monthly cap and unlocks bean brewing profiles, recipe guide notes, bean peak-time tracking, and your full brewing history. Plus is $6.99 per month or $44.99 per year (localized per storefront), and you can start a 7-day free trial inside the app with no payment details required.
How does Pourist build a recipe?
You pick a bean and the gear you'll brew with. Pourist reads the bean's roast level, process, and flavor notes, converts your grinder's actual click scale into particle size, and accounts for the dripper's flow characteristics, the filter, your water's mineral profile, and the weather. Every recipe passes hard validation rules for ratio, temperature, and pour structure before it reaches your screen.
Which drippers and grinders does Pourist support?
The equipment catalog covers 110+ drippers, 290+ grinders, 100+ filters, and 50+ waters. Grinders carry per-model grind scales, so a recipe can say '14 clicks' on your grinder instead of just 'medium-fine'. The bean catalog holds 2,000+ beans from 710+ roasters, and missing gear can be requested from inside the app.
Is there an app that creates pour over recipes based on my grinder and beans?
Yes, that is exactly what Pourist does. Instead of preset brew guides, it generates a recipe for the specific combination of your bean and your equipment, then adjusts it cup by cup from your tasting feedback.

Can I use Pourist with pre-ground coffee?
Yes. If you don't own a grinder, mark the bean as pre-ground when you register it and the recipe is built around that.
Can I log coffee I drink at cafes?
Yes. Cafe cups get their own log with photos and notes, so your taste map fills in from both the cups you brew and the cups you order. You choose which logs, if any, become public.
Which platforms and languages does Pourist support?
Pourist is iOS (iPhone) only. Korean, English, and Japanese are fully supported in the app and on the web. An Android version is not available yet.
