Equipment notes
KINTO is a Japanese lifestyle brand that began in 1972 as a tableware wholesaler in Shiga Prefecture before developing products of its own. The Slow Coffee Style series was created around the idea of savoring the unhurried time of brewing pour over coffee, and the SCS-02-BR is the series' brewer for one to two cups. The body is porcelain made in Japan, with the calm texture and heat retention typical of ceramics. Inside, gentle ribs run straight down the wall rather than in a spiral, and a single, relatively wide opening at the bottom lets water draw down along a straight path. The ribs keep the paper from clinging to the wall, and paired with the dedicated cotton paper filter, the brewer is designed for an even, unhurried drawdown that lets you take your time with each pour. It sits directly on a server or mug thanks to the lip on its base, and it is made to work with KINTO's own 2-cup cotton paper filters or the dedicated 2-cup stainless steel filter. A 4-cup version, the SCS-04-BR, shares the same design for larger brews. It pairs well with a slow, steady pour, making it a fitting choice for anyone who wants a relaxed brewing ritual at home.
