Equipment notes
Designed by Patrik Rolf of Copenhagen's April Coffee Roasters together with Belgian design studio Serax, the April Brewer is a flat-bottom dripper developed over two years for the 2019 World Brewers Cup, where Rolf took second place brewing with its prototype. It began as a roaster's own tool, built to brew coffee the way April roasts it. Three raised ridges on the base lift the filter off the floor so the outlet stays clear, while rings along the inner wall create air pockets between filter and brewer to aid air circulation. The aim is a drawdown that stays consistent from brew to brew and depends less on pouring technique. It accepts Kalita Wave 155 filters as well as April's own papers. April's own brewing guide is deliberately simple, built around just two pours. Because the brewer handles much of the flow, the pour itself can stay relaxed, and the design aims at a bright, clean cup that shows the sweetness and clarity of light roasts. It is a dripper for light-roast drinkers who want a repeatable cup from a short, simple routine.
