Equipment notes
The Mirukko R-220 is a compact high performance mill from Fuji Royal (Fujikoki) of Japan. The maker built its name on commercial roasters and shop grinders, and this model carries that lineage into homes and small cafes, where it is known by its nickname Mirukko. It has long been a steady seller and sits close to a standard machine among home roasters and independent cafes. It runs large flat burrs of about 75mm. The standard grind burr crushes beans between opposing spiked plates like a millstone, and a cut burr that slices instead is available as an option. Adjustment uses a numbered dial moved in half steps, giving 19 positions. The big burrs and ample power grind a single dose in a few seconds, though static at the chute scatters and clings to grounds, so it asks for a cleaning habit. Fines stay on the low side. Reviewer measurements suggest the particle spread stays fairly narrow across dial positions. The cup leans toward sweetness and stable body rather than sharp clarity, so pour over works well starting at medium to slightly coarse and tightening while watching the flow. It suits home users and small cafes that want the same cup every day with little fuss.
