Equipment notes
The Lagom Mini 2 is the second generation of Option-O's compact single-dose electric grinder. A slim cylinder that stands at the edge of a desk, it runs on USB-C power and is built to grind one dose on the spot. It shares its name with the first generation but the burrs changed and are not interchangeable. The burr is a 48 mm conical steel set, the Mizen 48MS, and adjustment is stepless on a dial marked with ten dots per rotation. Settings are counted in dots from the zero point where the burrs touch; the maker publishes starting points for espresso and pour over. It weighs 1.5 kg, retains under 0.2 g, and stops on its own when the beans are through. As with most 48 mm conicals the particle spread is wide, so the cup reads round, with sweetness and body ahead of clarity. When a light roast tastes muddy, opening one or two dots coarser than the starting point lowers the fines share. It suits someone who grinds a cup or two a day in a small space and wants to move between espresso and filter on one machine.
