Equipment notes
The Porlex Tall II is a manual grinder from Porlex, the Japanese ceramics maker founded in Osaka in 1978, and it is the revised generation of the larger-capacity Tall. It keeps the low-static stainless steel body, conical ceramic burr, and clicked stepped adjustment, but its key change over the original is stabilizing the outer burr with notches to remove play and tightening the adjustment into smaller, firmer steps. The larger hopper capacity is retained. It is made in Japan. The ceramic burr resists heat and will not rust, and the conical geometry adds body. Fines at fine settings remain a ceramic trait, but the stabilized outer burr narrows particle spread versus the original, and the slack-free, distinct clicks allow repeatable dial-in. Throughput per turn also rises, making larger volumes easier to grind by hand. Centered on pour-over and French press, its improved adjustment makes finer settings more approachable. It fits users who grind several cups at once yet want steadier adjustment and uniformity than the original, and anyone after a larger-capacity manual mill.
