RIVERS Cave Reversible

Equipment notes

This silicone reversible dripper comes from RIVERS, a Tokyo drinkware brand founded in 2000 that has built its catalog around tumblers, mugs, and outdoor coffee tools. The idea behind it is simple but unusual: mold a different rib pattern into each face of a single flexible body, so you can choose the extraction speed that suits the bean. When it launched in 2018, the brand's own blog introduced it as a dripper for true enthusiasts. The cone sits at 50 degrees, narrower than the common 60-degree cone, so the coffee bed stacks deeper and water travels a longer path through the grounds. Flip the soft silicone body and the number and thickness of the wall ribs change, shifting how fast water drains. From the same bean, the slower face softens acidity while the faster face trims bitterness toward a smoother balance. There is no dedicated paper, so you fold the edge of a commercial conical filter a little deeper to match the 50-degree wall. The silicone withstands heat up to 200C, weighs just 74 grams, and can be squashed into a pack without breaking, brewing one to four cups. It is a dripper for people who want to tune a cup's balance face by face, and to carry that experiment all the way to a campsite.
