Equipment notes
RIVERS, a Tokyo drinkware brand, introduced this 350ml French press in 2012. It is sized for one person, about two coffee cups or a single mug, and its signature is the ABS resin cover that wraps the heat-resistant glass beaker completely, keeping hands off the hot glass while guarding the beaker against knocks and breakage. The method is classic French press. Ground coffee steeps fully immersed in water, and a stainless steel mesh plunger presses the grounds down, so the oils and fine particles that paper would trap carry straight into the cup. The result is a heavy-bodied, aromatic, texture-forward cup, with a little sediment settling at the bottom. Use a coarse grind, pour all the water at once, steep for about four minutes, then press the plunger down slowly. No pouring technique is involved, so keeping time and grind consistent yields the same cup every time; the beaker pushes out from the base for washing, and it doubles as a tea brewer. This is a press for anyone who wants a rich, repeatable cup without learning any technique.
Filters that fit
The filter is built into the brewer, so there is nothing extra to buy.
