Equipment notes
Timemore, founded in Shanghai in 2012 and best known for its grinders and scales, extended its pour-over range with the Crystal Eye. The dripper is defined by its clear body and contoured inner wall, and it is offered in both glass and PCTG, with the glass version sold together with a holder. The overall form is familiar, a 60-degree cone with a single large outlet, but Timemore divides the inner wall into three zones. The smooth upper band presses the paper against the wall to limit water bypassing the filter, the contoured middle band receives the pour and helps regulate flow, and grooves in the lower section keep the grounds aerated and channels open toward the outlet so the bed drains without stalling late in the brew. It uses standard 60-degree conical paper filters such as Hario V60 papers, and because the flow stays open, pour speed and pacing are an easy way to steer extraction. A thorough preheat before brewing helps keep the temperature stable. It suits brewers who want to keep the familiar cone approach while enjoying a clear body and a full view of the brew as it happens.
