Equipment notes
Timemore, the Shanghai coffee equipment brand founded in 2012 and best known for its grinders and scales, added the B75 to its Crystal Eye line as the flat-bottom counterpart to the original cone. The design premise is simple: keep the coffee bed as flat as possible and let water move through it readily, aiming for even extraction across the bed. Walls angled at 75 degrees form a wide, shallow bed, while ten ribs on the base and twenty grooves along the sides lift the filter just enough to keep drainage from choking at the bottom. Retailers and reviewers describe the drawdown as fast, while the flat bed helps water pass through the whole bed evenly, which can make it more forgiving of imperfect pours. It takes 155-size flat-bottom papers, including Timemore's own B75 filters and Kalita Wave 155 filters, and because the flow is quick, grind size is the main lever for adjusting contact time. It is designed for one or two cups, making it a dripper for people starting out with flat-bottom brewing and for anyone who wants one or two consistent cups every morning.
