Deep 27 is a single-cup dripper released in 2023 by CAFEC, the house brand of Japan's Sanyo Sangyo, known as the developer of the world's first conical paper filter. To solve the problem of small doses forming too shallow a filtering layer, the base angle was steepened to 27 degrees so that even one cup's worth of grounds builds a sufficiently deep bed. Inside the steep cone the coffee bed stacks tall and narrow, so water travels through the grounds for longer, and the angle is calculated so the speed of pouring matches the speed at which liquid drains from the bottom. Petal-shaped ribs subtly change height toward the bottom hole, keeping an air layer between paper and dripper. Because of this unique angle, standard 60-degree papers do not fit; only the dedicated Abaca+ Deep 27 filter can be used. Following CAFEC's osmotic flow technique, pour a thin, steady stream onto a single point at the center, grind coarser than usual so the deep bed does not clog, and finish the brew within 2 minutes 30 seconds. The result is a cup with distinct sweetness and a smooth texture. It suits anyone who wants to brew a single, carefully made cup for themselves every day.
