Equipment notes
CAFEC is the coffee equipment brand of Sanyo Sangyo, a Japanese filter manufacturer founded in 1973 and credited with developing the world's first cone-shaped paper filter. The Flower Dripper Oval brings the petal-shaped ribs of the conical Flower Dripper into a trapezoid format; launched in late 2024, it completed the Flower series. The body is BPA-free Tritan. Petal ribs on the walls hold an air layer between paper and dripper so the grounds can expand fully, while straight ribs on the base form channels that guide the liquid to the outlet. The 101 size serves one to two cups through a single bottom hole, so water drains slowly and even a small dose gets enough contact time for a stable extraction. Use CAFEC's trapezoid paper filters in size 101 (Abaca or Abaca+). Tritan is light and steals little heat, so preheating matters less than with ceramic; keep the grind medium and pour calmly in stages. It is a dripper for the brewer who wants the Flower series' mellow character delivered one or two unhurried cups at a time.
