Equipment notes
Orea is an independent brewer brand founded in East London in 2020, and the O1 is the smallest member of its lineup: the open-bottom flat-bed design found in its V4, glass and porcelain brewers, compressed to single-cup scale. True to its 'Baby O' nickname, it is built to focus on one cup, at home or on the road. The structure matches the Tritan version: a wide open bottom where the paper sags slightly toward the center, layering a conical flow pattern over a shallow flat bed, plus compatibility with both 155-size wave and flat papers. What differs is the double-wall stainless steel body. Orea says the air gap between the walls keeps heat in the brewing chamber while the outside stays cooler to the touch, and the metal body is built for long, everyday use. Orea provides its own brewing guides, so a sensible start is to follow them and then adjust grind and pour pace to taste. Because the open base offers little resistance, changes in grind size and pouring show up readily in the cup. It is a dripper for the single-cup brewer who wants to hold the variables in their own hands, one small dose at a time.
