Orea is a small brewing equipment brand founded in East London in 2020, and the V3 is the model that made its name. Announced as the evolution that will start a revolution, it set out to combine the even bed of a flat brewer with the qualities people love in a cone, aiming at bright cups with unusual clarity. The body is moulded in Trogamid, a polymer whose very low thermal conductivity insulates the brew without a handle or sleeve, and the 73 degree flat bed it introduced was carried straight into the V4. The base is where the flow comes from: one large centre hole surrounded by four holes at the edge drains quickly while still supporting the paper, so grind size and pour rate, not the brewer, decide the drawdown. The later MK2 base adds 32 small teeth around the bed that open air pockets to relieve pressure, keeping drainage steady even with flat papers or finer grinds, and the two bases are interchangeable. The large 185 size takes 10 to 36 grams and accepts Kalita Wave 185, Fellow Stagg X and Saint Anthony F70 papers as well as flat papers from Orea and Sibarist, while the smaller 155 version is built for a single 10 to 18 gram cup. A good starting point is 20 grams of coffee to 300 grams of water at 1:15, poured as three 100 gram pours for a fast, high clarity cup or five 60 gram pours for something rounder over two to three minutes. It is a dripper for brewers who want the fastest flat bed available and are happy to steer the extraction with grind and pour rather than let the brewer do it.
