Orea O1

Orea is an independent brewer brand founded in East London in 2020, and the O1 is the smallest member of its lineup: the open-bottom flat-bed design developed through its earlier V-series brewers, compressed to single-cup scale. True to its 'Baby O' nickname, it is built to focus on one cup, at home or on the road. The unibody Tritan body ends in a wide open base with a ridge that supports the paper, so the flat filter sags slightly toward the middle and the water path converges at the center, layering a more conical flow pattern over a shallow flat bed. With little resistance at the base, drawdown is fast, and grind size and pour rate show up directly in the cup. It accepts both 155-size wave and flat papers: Orea notes that wave filters allow more bypass for a less concentrated cup, while flat filters reduce bypass for more sweetness and body. The light body has little mass to soak up heat, and Orea describes its thick wall as insulating. Start from the brew guides Orea supplies with the brewer, then adjust from there toward the cup you prefer. Orea describes the open-bottom geometry as aiming for vivid acidity while keeping balance, sweetness and body. It is a dripper for the single-cup brewer who wants to hold the variables in their own hands, one cup at a time.
