Equipment notes
Hario is a Japanese glassware and coffee equipment maker, and the Mini Mill Slim PRO is the slim, portable model in its line of ceramic hand grinders. It uses a conical ceramic burr, with a stainless steel body and a cast aluminum handle that add rigidity and finish over earlier Mini Mill versions. Its narrow cylindrical shape holds a small dose at a time and is built for grinding on the move or while traveling. Conical ceramic burrs run cooler and resist wear better than steel, but their uniformity is lower than high-end steel, so fines and body tend to stand out more. Grind size is set by turning the adjustment nut below the burr in steps, covering a practical range from medium pour-over to the coarser end near French press. The slim diameter and manual mechanism make large single batches tiring, so it suits handling small doses slowly. It fits pour-over drinkers who grind one or two cups at a time while traveling or at a desk, and works as an entry-level portable mill.
