1Zpresso is a Taiwanese maker specializing in manual coffee grinders. The J is the entry model of the J lineup built around a 48mm conical steel burr, and it sits at the start of a family that climbs through the JX, JX-Pro, J-Max and J-Ultra. It is a hand-cranked grinder with a threaded catch cup and internal adjustment set below the burr. The conical steel burr cuts rather than crushes, producing a distribution with a noticeable fines fraction that lends body and texture. Its stepped clicks make a found setting easy to return to, while the internal adjustment asks for a little more work when moving across large jumps in size. The adjustment resolution is coarser than the higher models, so it is stronger across pour-over and immersion filter brewing than at fine espresso dial-in. It suits beginner to intermediate users who want one grinder to cover pour-over, Clever and French press. Those chasing precise espresso work are better served by the higher J-Max or J-Ultra.
