The VS3 Gen 1 is the original compact electric model from the specialty grinder brand Varia, built around 48mm stainless steel conical burrs with stepless adjustment that changes grind continuously rather than in clicks. It packs an adjustment range reaching espresso into a small footprint and set an early benchmark in the compact all-round grinder class. Note that Gen 1 burrs fit only Gen 1, while the later second generation improved driveshaft and burr alignment and the motor setup. Stepless adjustment lets you narrow the grind finely without being tied to click steps, an advantage in areas needing fine tuning such as espresso dial-in. The 48mm conical burrs have more headroom in throughput and consistency than 40mm-class units and show the body-forward cup character typical of conical. Its wide adjustment range covers espresso through filter. It suits intermediate and advanced home brewers who move between espresso and filter on one machine and want the fineness of stepless adjustment.
