Varia VS4

Equipment notes

Varia's VS4 (a New Zealand brand) is a single-dose electric grinder with 53mm conical stainless steel burrs. A brushless motor paired with a planetary gearbox delivers stable torque even at low rotation, and stepless adjustment dials in grind size finely. It uses a 6-core conical burr set, and a removable burr chamber eases cleaning and retention management. Conical burrs tend to bring out body and texture, but with stepless adjustment and stable low-speed torque it covers broadly from the fine espresso range to filter. Low-speed operation suppresses heat and fines, favoring cup uniformity. A low-retention design keeps batch-to-batch variance small in single-dosing. It suits home baristas who like the fuller conical body yet want one machine spanning espresso and filter, and single-dose users who prize cleaning and setting convenience.
