Varia's Evo Hybrid (a New Zealand brand) is a hybrid hand grinder that uses both a hand crank and a built-in electric motor, which the maker introduces as the world's first true hybrid hand grinder. A USB-C rechargeable motor grinds automatically, and you can switch to the magnetic handle for manual grinding when the battery is flat or you prefer the feel. It uses 38mm conical stainless steel burrs (Supernova family) with stepped adjustment across many setting steps. Conical burrs tend to produce relatively more fines and more body, making it easy to get a smooth, fuller cup even by hand. Stepped adjustment offers good setting repeatability, favoring repeatable settings from the fine espresso range to filter. Alternating between automatic and manual, it combines portability with convenience. It suits users who want electric convenience while traveling or at the office without being tied to an outlet, and those running both espresso and filter from one compact mill.
