The Whirly 01S is Timemore's portable electric grinder, the battery-driven line from a brand that made its name with hand mills. Aimed at the gap between desktop electrics and hand grinding, it packs a top-mounted motor and a swivel hopper into a cylindrical metal body, and is presented as one unit covering espresso through French press. A conical steel burr (S2C-042-EI, SUS420) is driven by a 60W motor. Adjustment runs off a dial on the base, which divides one rotation into ten numbers and splits the space between numbers into three further steps for fine movement. Recommended bands per brew method are printed on the base, which makes finding a starting point easy, though the dial sitting underneath means lifting the body every time the setting changes. Being rechargeable, it grinds several cups in a row where there is no outlet. Because the burr is cut to reach espresso, it carries more fines than filter-dedicated grinders and leans toward body and sweetness rather than clarity. For pour-over it is safer to start in the middle of the recommended band and adjust by watching the flow, and when light roasts taste muddy, opening the grind to lower the fines share works. It suits people who want to skip hand grinding where there is no power, and anyone moving between espresso and filter on one machine.
