Hario Switch

The Hario Switch is a hybrid immersion-and-percolation dripper that Hario introduced in 2019. It was designed so that a single brewer could serve both immersion and pour-over styles, and so that the two methods could be combined freely within one brew. The design sits on the V60 platform. A stainless steel ball at the base follows the switch: pushed up, it seals the outlet for a still immersion bath; released, it opens into V60-style percolation through the cone. The bowl is heatproof borosilicate glass on a silicone base, and it takes standard V60 conical paper filters, a pack of which comes in the box. A larger 03 version is also available. A simple starting point is pure immersion: close the valve, let the coffee steep, then open it for the drawdown. Once comfortable, you can start open as a pour over and close the valve partway through, or switch back and forth during the brew. When and how long the valve stays closed is the main lever for changing the character of the cup. It is a dripper for beginners who want a forgiving, repeatable method and for explorers who enjoy tweaking every variable.
