Equipment notes

Hario was founded in Tokyo in 1921 as a maker of heatproof laboratory glass. The V60 grew out of long trial and error aimed at bringing the clarity of cloth-filter (nel drip) coffee to a paper filter, and it reached the market in the mid-2000s; its name comes from the V-shaped cone and its 60-degree angle. This model is the smallest 01 size, made in titanium. The geometry is unchanged: a 60-degree cone, spiral ribs, and one large drain hole that barely restricts flow, so pour rate still plays a direct role in extraction. In the 01 size, a one-to-two-cup dose sits as a deeper, narrower bed. Hario notes that titanium is lighter than stainless steel and holds up well to water, heat, and humidity, and since metal pulls heat from the water at first, preheating before the brew matters. A V60 01 conical filter, a filter rinse, a bloom, and gentle spiral pours make a solid starting point. This model keeps the V60's familiar structure and changes the material to cut weight and add durability, so it suits backpackers and outdoor brewers who count every gram, as well as anyone who wants a long-lasting metal V60 for one or two cups.
