Hario V60 Suiren 02

Equipment notes

Suiren (Japanese for water lily), introduced by Hario in 2024, strips the iconic V60 down to its skeleton. The 60-degree cone and spiral ribs remain, but the outer wall is gone: petal-like ribs hold the paper filter suspended in open air, like a lily floating on water. It is Hario's first assembly-type dripper, built rib by rib, born from the idea of brewing coffee the way you arrange flowers. With no walls, only the grounds and the paper govern the flow, which Hario calls an 'all flow' structure. You would expect the open frame to drain faster, yet in measured side-by-side tests the drawdown ran slightly slower than a standard V60: heat escapes the exposed bed quickly, the slurry cools, and cooler water percolates more slowly. Add the bypass seeping through the exposed filter sides, and the cup turns soft, round and balanced, with its sharp edges gently pressed down. To offset the heat loss and bypass, brew hot and start with a tighter ratio around 1:14. It takes standard V60 02 paper filters, and the ribs come apart for flat storage. This is a dripper for those who prefer smooth balance over bright, piercing acidity, and who want their daily brew to be something worth looking at.
