Equipment notes

Hario began in Tokyo in 1921 as a maker of heatproof laboratory glass. The V60 arrived in the mid-2000s after long trial and error aimed at recreating the taste of nel drip with a paper filter, and its name comes from the V-shaped cone and its 60-degree angle. This model is the smallest 01 size of that V60, made in stainless steel. The geometry is unchanged: a 60-degree cone, spiral ribs, and one large drain hole that barely restricts flow, so pour rate still decides the extraction. In the 01 size, the same dose stacks into a deeper, narrower bed, producing focused extractions at one to two cups. Since metal pulls heat from the water first, preheating before the brew matters; once preheated, the body actually supports a stable temperature. A V60 01 size conical filter, a medium-fine grind, and spiral pours after rinsing and blooming make a solid starting point. The unbreakable metal body takes rough handling in stride. This is a dripper for anyone who wants a tough V60 for their own one or two cups, sturdy enough to bring camping.
